100 bible passages On depression

Finding Inspiration to overcome mental health challenges

The Director of Public Health in County Durham recently noted that depression among adults in the county had increased by 7.3% with 34,800 more people suffering depression today than ten years ago. While depression is a mental health condition, in many cases spiritual elements are also involved. The Church is therefore in a great position to work within communities and local populations to strengthen resources to increase resilience and help local authorities achieve better health outcomes.
At RCCG ThroneRoom Christian Centre, Consett, we introduce the #100BiblePassagesOnDepression campaign to raise awareness and sensitise people as well as reassure and support those experiencing depression to overcome the condition.
#100BiblePassagesOnDepression will publish 100 bible passage over the next few months to encourage sufferers and help them gain victory over depression.

100 Passages - Day 7.png

Day 7 – Proverbs 3:5-6
Living independently of God robs people of a vital life-energising relationship and fellowship with God in which trust in him is developed. For many, it is foolishness to be dependent on God, and so we live for ourselves, on our own terms and stray further away from God. Yet, it is in that place of relationship and dependence on God, that He brings us beside the still waters and restores our weary souls. It is in this place of fellowship that God enlightens us and shows us the paths that we should walk, and makes the crooked places straight in our lives. It is not something that money, power, accomplishments can buy or attain. You can simply ask God to take control of your life.

Day 8 - Psalm 143:7-8
Cry out desperately to the Lord and let him hear you. Cry out like blind Bartimaeus and stop Jesus in his tracks!  He is able to deliver you from all your troubles. Jesus says "I will never turn away anyone who comes to me" (John 6:37). The steadfast love of God never ceases and his mercies and compassions are unending and are renewed  every morning. Hold on to him and never let go!

Day 9 - Psalm 30:5
In Psalm 30, the psalmist lets us in to a  conversation with God where he extols God's saving grace. As we consider the psalm, let's reflect on ways that God is able to deliver us from our troubles. The Message expresses this conversation as follows:
I give you all the credit, God — you got me out of that mess, you didn’t let my foes gloat. God, my God, I yelled for help and you put me together. God, you pulled me out of the grave, gave me another chance at life when I was down-and-out. All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face! He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter. When things were going great I crowed, “I’ve got it made. I’m God’s favorite. He made me king of the mountain.” Then you looked the other way and I fell to pieces. I called out to you, God; I laid my case before you: “Can you sell me for a profit when I’m dead? auction me off at a cemetery yard sale? When I’m ‘dust to dust’ my songs and stories of you won’t sell. So listen! and be kind! Help me out of this!” You did it: you changed wild lament into whirling dance; You ripped off my black mourning band and decked me with wildflowers. I’m about to burst with song. I can’t keep quiet about you. God, my God, I can’t thank you enough

Day 10 - Philippians 4:6-7

Pray about everything instead of worrying about everything. Develop a culture or habit of talking to God about everything. Be thankful for everything, even the situation you find yourself in but ask for help to overcome it. Be clear about what you want and where you are not sure what you want ask God for help to get what best for you in your circumstance. Then experience God's peace. What's great about this is that it does not have to be a one-off. Just develop your relationship with God through Christ Jesus and go to Him everyday in prayer.
