100 bible passages On depression

Finding Inspiration to overcome mental health challenges

The Director of Public Health in County Durham recently noted that depression among adults in the county had increased by 7.3% with 34,800 more people suffering depression today than ten years ago. While depression is a mental health condition, in many cases spiritual elements are also involved. The Church is therefore in a great position to work within communities and local populations to strengthen resources to increase resilience and help local authorities achieve better health outcomes.
At RCCG ThroneRoom Christian Centre, Consett, we introduce the #100BiblePassagesOnDepression campaign to raise awareness and sensitise people as well as reassure and support those experiencing depression to overcome the condition.
#100BiblePassagesOnDepression will publish 100 bible passage over the next few months to encourage sufferers and help them gain victory over depression.
Let's make a difference and show we care. Share this page and hashtag with those that really need a lift in life.

Day 1

#100BiblePassagesOnDepression
Day 1 - Psalm 34:17-18
God is able to help all those who call on Him. Jesus says in John 6:37 "I will never turn away anyone who comes to me." So, no matter who you are, where you are, what you have done, or what situation you are in call on him to help, in all seriousness of heart, and he will come to your aid. Verse 18 of today's passage in the English Standard Version of the Bible  says 'The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit'.
Call on Him while he is near.

Day 2 - 2 Corinthians 7:6
God comforts and encourages those who are troubled or depressed, but they have got to call on him and believe that he is able to save them. Let's learn to share our burdens with God. Cast all your cares upon him for he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)
Let's beat depression

Day 3 - Isaiah 41:10
We learn from this passage that God reassures his people and promises to be with them and strengthen as well as uphold them through the challenges they face. If we let Jesus into our lives, God is able to uphold us through the challenges we face in our life journey. We do not have to go it alone, we were not designed to go through life alone and on our own steam. We can tap into God's overarching presence and provision for us.
If you are going through depression or some other mental health challenge you can invite God into your life today. Let God reassure you of his power to uphold you and keep you safe. Don't go through  your life journey alone.

Day 4 - 1 Peter 5:7
Commentary
Today's passage in The Amplified Version of the Bible is quite clear - 'casting all your cares (all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all) on Him, for He cares about you (with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully).' God wants to love on us but we have the responsibility to bring our burdens to Him and not try to bear them on our own. When we trust Him with our burdens then He sustains us. (Psalm 55:22)

Day 5 - Matthew 11:28
What  an invitation! Jesus invites people to unload on Him, no matter the issue, and He promises to give them rest from their burdens. Are you burdened, encumbered with a load of care? Why be discouraged under the weight of your burdens, when Jesus can take them all off you? Take them to him and he will give you rest from all that is weighing you down.

Day 6 - Jeremiah 29:11
We feature prominently in God's agenda. He doesn't just create us and abandon us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. Even when we have erred and drifted away from Him, as we are all wont to do, His plan is to draw us close to him again. His thoughts towards us are of peace and not of evil, to prosper us in all areas of life and to give us a hope of an eternal life in His presence. Let this ignite your spirit with hope and dispel every dark thought - you feature in God's thoughts and plans to restore you and give you a victorious life.

Day 7 – Proverbs 3:5-6
Living independently of God robs people of a vital life-energising relationship and fellowship with God in which trust in him is developed. For many, it is foolishness to be dependent on God, and so we live for ourselves, on our own terms and stray further away from God. Yet, it is in that place of relationship and dependence on God, that He brings us beside the still waters and restores our weary souls. It is in this place of fellowship that God enlightens us and shows us the paths that we should walk, and makes the crooked places straight in our lives. It is not something that money, power, accomplishments can buy or attain. You can simply ask God to take control of your life.

Day 8 - Psalm 143:7-8
Cry out desperately to the Lord and let him hear you. Cry out like blind Bartimaeus and stop Jesus in his tracks!  He is able to deliver you from all your troubles. Jesus says "I will never turn away anyone who comes to me" (John 6:37). The steadfast love of God never ceases and his mercies and compassions are unending and are renewed  every morning. Hold on to him and never let go!

Day 9 - Psalm 30:5
In Psalm 30, the psalmist lets us in to a  conversation with God where he extols God's saving grace. As we consider the psalm, let's reflect on ways that God is able to deliver us from our troubles. The Message expresses this conversation as follows:
I give you all the credit, God — you got me out of that mess, you didn’t let my foes gloat. God, my God, I yelled for help and you put me together. God, you pulled me out of the grave, gave me another chance at life when I was down-and-out. All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face! He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter. When things were going great I crowed, “I’ve got it made. I’m God’s favorite. He made me king of the mountain.” Then you looked the other way and I fell to pieces. I called out to you, God; I laid my case before you: “Can you sell me for a profit when I’m dead? auction me off at a cemetery yard sale? When I’m ‘dust to dust’ my songs and stories of you won’t sell. So listen! and be kind! Help me out of this!” You did it: you changed wild lament into whirling dance; You ripped off my black mourning band and decked me with wildflowers. I’m about to burst with song. I can’t keep quiet about you. God, my God, I can’t thank you enough

Day 10 - Philippians 4:6-7

Pray about everything instead of worrying about everything. Develop a culture or habit of talking to God about everything. Be thankful for everything, even the situation you find yourself in but ask for help to overcome it. Be clear about what you want and where you are not sure what you want ask God for help to get what best for you in your circumstance. Then experience God's peace. What's great about this is that it does not have to be a one-off. Just develop your relationship with God through Christ Jesus and go to Him everyday in prayer.
